Matona – timeless fashion that is here to stay
Some brands are created at the drawing board. Others at the sewing table. For Matona, it was the latter.
In 2016, Katharina began sewing clothes for her son herself in Vorarlberg. The first individual pieces soon turned into small series, the first shops took notice of Matona – and step by step, a personal idea developed into its own fashion label.
Today, ten years later, Katharina and David run Matona together as a family business. The collections have grown, but the underlying idea has remained: to design clothing that is high-quality, timeless, and wearable for as long as possible.
From children's clothing to fashion for the whole family
Matona started with children's clothing. And like so much else about the brand, the range developed quite naturally along with their own lives.
As the family grew, so did the desire for clothing for women that adapts to different life phases and body shapes – during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but just as well beyond that.
In the meantime, Matona designs clothing for women, men, and children. The small label from Vorarlberg has become a brand that can be found in more than 100 shops in over 30 countries.
What has not changed is the standard set for the clothing itself.
Timeless instead of seasonal
This is a philosophy we at NUVONDA particularly appreciate: Matona does not want to follow every short-lived trend.
Instead, the label focuses on reduced silhouettes, calm colors, and cuts that aren't meant to disappear from the wardrobe after one season.
The designs are minimalist without appearing boring. Rather, they are uncomplicated pieces that can be combined in new ways again and again and become a natural part of one's own wardrobe.
Or in other words: less "just for this season" and more "staying a little longer."
Carefully selected materials
Timeless design alone is not enough for Matona. An important part of the collections is therefore the selection of materials.
Among others, organic cotton, linen, wool, cashmere, Tencel® and ECONYL® are used. It is not just about what a garment is made of. For Matona, it is also crucial how a material wears, how it ages, and how it changes over time.
Some of the products are GOTS-certified and are labeled by Matona accordingly. Matona itself is also GOTS-certified as a brand.
Made in Europe
Matona also relies on proximity and long-term relationships for production.
The collections are manufactured exclusively in European facilities. Matona works with a carefully selected network of manufacturers, many of which are family-run.
The cooperation is long-term and personal: Katharina and David visit the production sites themselves and are in direct contact with the people who realize their designs.
Portugal plays a special role. When orders became too large for their own sewing table in the early years, Katharina and David found small, family-run production facilities there. Matona still works with some of them today.
Fashion to wear, love, and live in
Perhaps that is exactly what best describes Matona: the clothing is not made for a specific moment.
It is meant to be worn. Often. Combined in different ways. Over several seasons. And in the best case, for so long that a new garment eventually becomes a familiar favorite piece.
In 2026, Matona celebrates its 10th anniversary. Much has changed since those first hand-sewn pieces in Vorarlberg. The collections have grown, Matona has expanded internationally, and the brand identity has also been updated for the anniversary.
The idea behind it, however, has remained surprisingly constant.
Timeless clothing. Carefully selected materials. Fair production in Europe. And pieces that accompany you for as long as possible.
That is precisely why Matona fits so well with NUVONDA.
